"Behold! these be grave mysteries; for there are also of my friends who be hermits. Now think not to find them in the forest or on the mountain; but in beds of purple, caressed by magnificent beasts of women with large limbs, and fire and light in their eyes, and masses of flaming hair about them; there shall ye find them. Ye shall see them at rule, at victorious armies, at all the joy; and there shall be in them a joy a million times greater than this. Beware lest any force another, King against King! Love one another with burning hearts; on the low men trample in the fierce lust of your pride, in the day of your wrath.."

This is the first in a series of essay which shall attempt to explain the situation between Iraq and the United States. Following articles will cover predictions for what will happen to the United States, its citizens and also Iraq. My reason for including this article follows. The other day I was surfing the Net looking of an article among astrology sites that would give some meaning to the ensuing conflict. Much to my amazement, I could not find any. The were many analyses of past events, but what about the here and now? Those of us who consider ourselves mystics have an obligation to use our gifts to cast light on the world situation to help our brothers and sister understand what is going on around them. We should not cower in the face of the fact that we may make mistakes. Interpretation is not a perfect art. So be it. Let us know what you think of this article by e-mailing us.

A composite chart for Iraq and the Untied States

September 14, 1958, 5:30 AM BGT, marked the genesis of a powerful force in contemporary world affairs: the Republic of Iraq. That moment in time in relation to the latitude and longitude of Baghdad marks a precise place in the time space continuum. It interacts dynamically with all other similar markers. Among these are the birth of the United States of America. That relationship can be interpreted through a composite chart and traditional synastry. A Composite chart diagrams the relationship between two parties their combined midpoints. It incorporates the combined near midpoints for each planet in the two charts. It experiences transits, directed planets and progressions just like a natal chart. Midpoint analysis is another important factor to examine, particularly in determine the course of future events. All of these techniques will be brought to bare in the following article which examines the state of affairs between Iraq and The United States.

Death Magick

We begin by examining the composite chart. Even cursory examination of the composite chart for Iraq and the United States gives cause for immediate alarm. In the first house, we encounter a conjunction of Pluto and Saturn under Scorpio. This combinations conjures imagery of death and constriction. (Both Pluto and Saturn square the Sun, blocking beneficent healing energy that could emerge from King of Heaven.) An aspect between Pluto and Saturn corresponds to the Atu for the Magus. The Magus himself represents craft, cunning, the ability to manipulate the elements. His is an airy domain, but he is caught in the fetid waters of Scorpio. It is a primordial swamp, home to foul illnesses such as malaria, and elemental life like bacteria. In this atmosphere, the Magus is more cunning than constructive. (He must be to avoid drowning in the quagmire.) The other Atu we enocunter in the First House is Death. Of course, Death in the Tarot often means rebirth. However, that rebirth comes about because life is laid waste. Under its combined domain with the Magus, life does not simply continue unimpeded. There must be a radical restructuring, which frequently comes on the heels of destruction. It does not testify to the sustained well being of both parties in the relationship.

Next, In the second house we find the Moon under Sagittarius in opposition to Mars (in the 8th House!.) This opposition is highly volatile. Given Mars’ role as the Lesser Malefic and Lord of Destruction and the moon’s position as inner guide, how can the relationship be anything warlike? Particularly, given the house placements, with the Moon in the Second House representing the public state of Affairs, and Mars in the Eighth House representing death. The Atu for the Emperor is herein closed. Ill dignified the Emperor becomes a tyrant. The hand of despotism shapes the public perception US-Iraq relations. The Tarot for Moon in Sagittarius is the 9 of Wands, Strength. Not in dignity due to the affliction of the Moon, it marks a trial of the human spirit.

Violent death is a traditional interpretation of Mars in the Eighth House. Mars is squared by Jupiter. This is illuminating since that aspect relates to the Atu for Lust. Understanding the truth of Lust involves the native coming to terms and mastering his base instincts. The path of Lust is closed, thus the relationship suffers because neither participant is able to come to terms with his own base instinct. Of course, blood lust is one of the most dreadful forms of lust that mankind experiences. Not being tempered it often is resolved in violence. Given the desert imagery of Lust, with the Whore of Babalon (historically located in Iraq) and the Book of Revelations, its bloody energy seems especially pitched here.

There are many more complexities manifest in the composite chart, but space permits only the examination of a couple more points. The path of Devil is open in the 10th house, which talks about the development of the public state of affairs. Lord of the Gates of Matter, the Devil deals with the excesses of materialism. Given free reign, his energy overwhelms more sensitive and spiritual types of exploration. Neptune lies in the 12 House, place of secret enemies and unseen circumstance. Neptune represents the heart of mysticism. Yet trined by Mars, it is more noble nature is corrupted and muddled with a fiery edge. It square to the Sun sinks optimism, since this closes the path of Atu XVII the Star.
